Rishikesh in 3 Days Under ₹5,000 — My Complete Itinerary

 Everyone says Rishikesh is expensive.

They are wrong. Or rather — they are making

it expensive by doing it wrong.

I did a complete 3 day Rishikesh trip for

under ₹5,000 including transport, stay,

food and activities. Here is exactly how.

---

Getting There

Bus from Delhi or nearby cities costs

₹300 to ₹500 one way depending on where

you are coming from. Do not take a flight

or hire a cab. The bus is fine. The views

on the way are actually beautiful.

Total transport budget: ₹800 both ways.

Where to Stay

Hostels in Rishikesh are genuinely good.

Clean. Social. Well located. Dorm beds

cost ₹300 to ₹500 per night.

I stayed at a hostel near Laxman Jhula

for 2 nights. ₹350 per night. Hot water.

Decent wifi. Good crowd.

Total stay budget: ₹700 for 2 nights.

Day 1 — Arrival and Settling In

Morning — Triveni Ghat at sunrise.

Free entry. One of the most peaceful

experiences you will have anywhere in India.

Get there before 6am.

Afternoon — Walk across Laxman Jhula.

Explore the cafes and shops on the other side.

Budget ₹100 for chai and snacks.

Evening — Ganga Aarti at Ram Jhula.

Free to watch. Genuinely moving if you

let yourself be present for it.

Dinner at a local dhaba near your hostel.

₹80 to ₹120 for a full meal.

Day 1 total spend: ₹250 to ₹300

---

Day 2 — The Adventure Day

Morning — River rafting. The standard

16km stretch costs ₹600 to ₹700 per person

if you book directly with operators at

Shivpuri. Do not book through a middleman

or hotel. Walk up to the operators directly

and negotiate.

Afternoon — Beatles Ashram. ₹150 entry.

Genuinely interesting even if you are not

a Beatles fan. The murals inside are worth

the entry fee alone.

Evening — Cafe hopping in Tapovan.

The cafes here are cheap, good and have

incredible views. Budget ₹200 for this.

Day 2 total spend: ₹950 to ₹1,050

---

Day 3 — Before Heading Back

Morning — Neer Garh Waterfall.

₹50 entry. 20 minute hike. Completely

worth it especially in the morning when

it is not crowded.

Afternoon — Local market near Rishikesh

bus stand. Good place to pick up cheap

souvenirs if you want them.

Evening — Bus back home.

Day 3 total spend: ₹200 to ₹300

Complete Budget Breakdown

Food 3 days          —  ₹700

River rafting        —  ₹650

Beatles Ashram       —  ₹150

Neer Garh Waterfall  —  ₹50

Miscellaneous        —  ₹400

Total                —  ₹3,450

I budgeted ₹5,000 and spent ₹3,450.

Came back with ₹1,550 still in my pocket.

Rishikesh is not expensive. Booking through

middlemen and staying in hotels instead of

hostels is expensive. Know the difference.

If you are planning this trip carry this

water bottle — you will need it for the hike

and the rafting and it saves you buying

packaged water the whole trip:

And a good backpack makes the whole trip

easier. I use one I found on Amazon that

has been solid for 2 years now.
